The Time of Dream
The spiral staircase (sometimes unfairly called the French staircase) is a spiral staircase that revolves around a central pivot point. In common parlance, we often speak of "spiral staircase". It takes its name from the Norman term calimachon which literally means "snail with shell", which illustrates well its particular form.
Advantages and disadvantages of a spiral staircase
It does not necessarily rest on a wall bearing;
It can be hollow core, that is to say that it does not rest on a central pillar but reveals a day in its center;
It fits in round cages as well as in square cages;
the space is optimized because the footprint is less compared to a conventional staircase.
The main disadvantage of the spiral staircase is the size of the steps: because of the rotation of the staircase, the steps narrowed in the center.
The spiral staircase is often considered more aesthetic than a traditional staircase, which explains why it is more widespread in modern and contemporary architecture. However, by its shape, its rise is less easy, because of the angle formed, and the size of the steps is reduced. Before installation, a proper study of size and shape is therefore strongly recommended.
I had the idea to make this project: The time of a dream to make the meeting of all the thoughts and philosophies ... My idea and realization were very appreciated. A lot of questions were asked during the exhibition of the Artist of the Year contest 2018 and especially the curiosity that led to this 100% wood project ...
